ABOUT
Mike Towner has worked with businesses and nonprofits since 2002 in the United States, devising creative ways to generate recurring revenue and avoid the necessity for nonprofits to continue to go 'cap in hand' every year to the various state legislatures and Federal agencies, just to be able, in many cases, to survive another year to serve the people who they proudly serve. These programs have generated in excess of $100 million.
Mike Towner has worked directly with Yoko Ono Lennon, Bruce Brown Films, LLC, Philippe Cousteau and EarthEcho International, Inc., Feeding America, Feeding Florida (f/k/a Florida Association of Food Banks), Rocky Mountain Wolf Project, Protect Wild Dolphins Alliance, California Association of Food Banks, Feeding Washington, Weld Food Bank Colorado, Oregon Food Bank, Montana Food Bank, Alabama Food Bank Association, Georgia Association of Food Banks, Harbor Branch Oceanographic Foundation, The Georgia Aquarium, Miami Heat, NASCAR, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Florida Marlins and the Florida Sports Foundation.
For over two decades, Mike Towner has been involved in the crafting, developing, introduction and passage of legislation benefiting numerous nonprofit groups throughout the United States and has testified and appeared on numerous occasions in support of changes and improvements to the Specialty License Plate program. He also presented to Governor Jeb Bush and the Florida Cabinet regarding the benefits of digital license plates and the replacement of the archaic metal license plates.
The Specialty License Plate Program has grown throughout the United States and continues to expand every year. As of July 1, 2023, there are 8,331 different license plates offered in the 50 states and the District of Columbia. Maryland leads the way with 989 distinct plates listed on the Maryland Department of Motor Vehicles' website. Texas has 476.
In Florida, in 2012, 1,368,180 specialty plates were sold. As of May 1, 2024, there are a total of 2,164,952 registered specialty license plates. The Florida 'Endless Summer' specialty license plate has 136,208 registered owners as of May 1, 2024, resulting in annual revenue to the organization of over $3.4M.
In California, the 1960's 'Legacy' License Plate is the highest selling plate. Proposed by Representative Mike Gatto, funding goes to the Environmental License Plate fund which benefits environmental projects in California and the license plate generates in excess of $7.5M annually. The California 'Kids' (Department of Social Services) License Plate raises over $3M annually.
